The Paediatric Surgery Department at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) provides specialised surgical care for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents.

  • Newborn and Infant Surgery

    Management of congenital anomalies including gastroschisis, omphalocele, intestinal atresia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and Hirschsprung’s disease.

  • Gastrointestinal Surgery

    Treatment of appendicitis, intussusception, Meckel’s diverticulum, and bowel obstruction.

  • Paediatric Urology

    Correction of hypospadias, undescended testes, posterior urethral valves, and vesicoureteric reflux.

Dr. Marissa Seepersaud
Head of Section

Dr. Marisa Seepersaud is a Paediatric Surgeon with extensive experience in clinical practice, medical education, and surgical leadership. She holds an MBBS, a Doctorate in Paediatric Surgery, and an MBA in Healthcare Management. Her work has strengthened paediatric surgical services in Guyana and gained international recognition through contributions to SURGhub, surgical simulation, and global training initiatives. She is also a published author and mentor dedicated to advancing safe and sustainable paediatric surgery.
