The Nephrology Department at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) is the national referral centre for kidney care, offering diagnosis and management of acute and chronic renal failure, hypertension, and related disorders. Services include early detection, medical management, dialysis, and specialised training for medical and nursing staff.

This is a specialist service. Patients are required to be referred by their family doctor, district health facility, or through the GPHC Outpatient Department.

Inpatient Services

  • Kidney and Renal Conditions

    Evaluation and treatment of patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and renal complications of other illnesses.

  • In-hospital Dialysis

    In-hospital dialysis for critically ill or unstable patients.

  • Coordinated Multi-Team Support

    Coordination of care with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Internal Medicine, and Cardiology teams for multi-organ management.

Outpatient and Dialysis Services

  • Haemodialysis

    The department provides continuous dialysis services for patients requiring renal replacement therapy.

  • Peritoneal Dialysis

    Support and follow-up for selected patients performing dialysis at home or under supervised care.

  • Renal Clinics

    Regular outpatient reviews for patients with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, and post-transplant care.

  • Patient Counselling

    Education on medication adherence, diet modification, and self-management of kidney disease.

Collaborative Services

The Nephrology Department works closely with other departments — including Laboratory Services, Pharmacy, Radiology, and Nutrition and Dietetics — to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for all patients.

    Manage inpatient and outpatient kidney cases under consultant supervision.
