General Internal Medicine

For over 20 years, the Department of General Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has provided comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for acute and chronic conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and dengue. The department combines clinical excellence, compassionate service, and medical training through the Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine Programme.

This is a specialist service. Patients are required to be referred by their family doctor, district health facility, or through the GPHC Outpatient Department.

  • Inpatient Care (Complex Medical Cases)
    • Continuous management of 20–35 admissions daily, with a caseload of 90–130 patients.
    • 24-hour clinical coverage by four consultant-led teams.
    • Advanced care for adults with complex and multisystem medical conditions
    • Specialised inpatient care provided at both GPHC and the Infectious Disease Hospital.
    • Specialised management of acutely ill patients, chronic medical conditions, communicable and non-communicable disease spectrums such as  heart failure, diabetes, stroke, and complex multisystem illness such as sepsis.
  • Outpatient Care
    • Follow-up services through consultant-led Medical Clinics for discharged and returning patients.
    • Chronic disease monitoring and medication management.
    • Preventive care, health education, and lifestyle guidance.
    • Referrals for specialised or advanced medical care when needed

Dr. Kishore Ramdass
Head of Section

Dr. Kishore Ramdass brings extensive clinical, academic, and leadership experience to his role as Head of Department. He holds degrees in Medical Technology, Pharmacy, Medicine & Surgery, and a Master’s in Internal Medicine & Infectious Diseases. With 17 years of service, he has managed complex medical conditions, taught across all levels of medical training, and contributed to multiple committees advancing clinical governance and patient care at GPHC.

The department is staffed by an experienced and multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing high-quality, coordinated care.
