GPHC Enhances Urologic Care with International Expertise and Advanced Surgery
HoLEP Surgical Workshop Brings International Expertise to Guyana
The Urology Section of the Department of Surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) recently hosted a Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) Surgical Workshop with Dr. David Bayne, Chief of Urology at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
Dr. Bayne is an American Board of Urology-certified urologist with a strong interest in international surgery. GPHC is also proud to recognize his Guyanese heritage, which made the collaboration particularly meaningful.
Hands-On Training in Advanced Prostate Surgery
During the workshop, local urological surgeons and trainees gained valuable hands-on experience in HoLEP, an advanced minimally invasive procedure used in the treatment of enlarged prostate.
The training provided participants with practical exposure to modern surgical techniques that can improve patient outcomes, reduce recovery times, and enhance the overall quality of urologic care available in Guyana.
