Driving Healthcare Transformation Through Strategic Dialogue and Global Partnerships

Ongoing discussions between the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and the Mount Sinai Health System continue to shape the future of healthcare delivery in Guyana, as both institutions work collaboratively to strengthen systems, improve patient outcomes, and achieve international standards of care.
These engagements have provided a platform for open and strategic dialogue on key priorities, including addressing workforce gaps, enhancing emergency care service delivery, strengthening strategic direction, and advancing the implementation of an electronic health record system. These focus areas remain central to the next phase of healthcare transformation at GPHC and across the public health sector.
Building on these discussions, a recent visit by senior Mount Sinai officials further reinforced this growing partnership. Dr. David Reich, Chief Clinical Officer and President of The Mount Sinai Hospital, was guided on a tour of GPHC, accompanied by Dr. Rachel Vreeman, Dr. Tao Xu, Mr. Amar Dhanraj, and Dr. Corey Hancock.
The visit highlighted the progress made since the partnership’s establishment in July 2022 with the Ministry of Health, as well as a shared vision to modernise and strengthen Guyana’s public health system. Support from Mount Sinai continues to span critical areas such as Quality and Patient Safety, Infection Prevention, Nursing, Pharmacy Services, Accident and Emergency Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Information Technology, and Fire and Life Safety Communications, and a few more areas contributing to stronger policies, modern systems, and a more resilient workforce at GPHC.
As part of their engagement in Guyana, the team also facilitated a conference titled “Turning Promise into Practice: Integrating AI into Healthcare,” which brought together healthcare professionals to explore the growing role of innovation in healthcare delivery.
Delivering the feature address at the forum, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali underscored that healthcare is a key pillar of Guyana’s national development, emphasizing that integrating technology, particularly artificial intelligence, is no longer optional but essential to building a modern, efficient, and responsive health system.
The President highlighted that investments in healthcare must be holistic, combining infrastructure development with human capital, digital transformation, and improved systems of care. He further noted that embracing innovation will enable Guyana to deliver higher-quality, more accessible, and patient-centered services, while positioning the country to meet future healthcare demands.
These initiatives align closely with the Government’s broader vision of “One Guyana,” ensuring that advancements in healthcare benefit all citizens, regardless of location or background.
At GPHC, we remain committed to advancing this vision, leveraging strong partnerships, embracing innovation, and continuously improving the quality of care we provide to the people of Guyana.
